Future Health BIOBANK explains cord banking to expectant parents on TV
Europe’s first accredited family stem cell bank Future Health BIOBANK is taking the message of cord blood and cord tissue banking onto TV this week.
The company is taking part in ‘How to... Prepare for your baby’s arrival’, a brand new television series designed to provide information and support to millions of new and expectant parents in the UK and Europe. The programme will be aired on Sky Channel 201 and BBC ITV Freesat Channel 403 on Tuesday 7 February at 7.30pm and is estimated to reach 22 million viewers in the UK alone plus a further 50 million in Europe. It will be repeated on Sunday 12 February at 6pm.
Future Health was asked to provide expert content on cord blood and cord tissue donation and banking, which the programme makers were keen to cover as something that expectant parents are increasingly interested in but are not routinely informed about within their regular ante natal care.
During the programme, Future Health’s UK Director Roger Dainty MBE will explain the science behind the use of cord stem cells while midwife Negar Shamshiri will talk about the process of collection and storage. The cameras will also take a behind-the-scenes tour of Future Health’s state-of-the art laboratories and cryogenic facilities.
“We are delighted to be taking part in this important and informative series for expectant parents,” said Roger Dainty MBE. “Most cords are routinely thrown away as medical waste at millions of births each year despite its possibilities. We hope that the programme will give more parents pause for thought about that and the opportunity to make a more informed choice.”
